St. Thomas Aquinas (–) was a systematic thinker. He developed his philosophy and theology within an intellectual framework called metaphysics. In our times it seems necessary to add that he worked within classical metaphysics, the one founded by Aristotle. It is hard to understand Aquinas’s arguments without knowing the principles.

Thomas Aquinas (c. ) is the most influential Christian philosopher and theologian of the Scholastic period. His influence is primarily due to his synthesis of Aristotelian philosophy with Christian theology, as well as the breadth and systematic rigor of his writings. Thomas' thought is among the densest of all philosophers', and is, for the modern student, perhaps more difficult to grasp than is the work of Kant.4/5(9).

If one is interested in Aquinas, one has to start somewhere, and Edward Feser's Aquinas: A Beginner's Guide is an excellent place. But it's more: Feser not only walks the reader through the basics of Aquinas's metaphysics, but also its logical conclusions for natural theology, psychology, and ethics/5. The Semantic Principles Underlying Saint Thomas Aquinas's Metaphysics of Being. by Gyula Klima (Medieval Philosophy and Theology, (5), pp. ) Introduction: Semantics and Metaphysics. As I hope the title clearly indicates, this paper is not intended to contribute its ounces to the tons of literature on Aquinas's metaphysics of being.
